Your Questions, Answered

What makes your practice different from offices that also offer orthodontics?

Keller & Wainwright Orthodontics is dedicated exclusively to orthodontic care. That means your treatment is supported by a team, workflow, and clinical systems built specifically for braces, Invisalign, and long-term bite correction. In some offices, orthodontic treatment is offered only part time. Here, it is our full-time focus.

Is Dr. Wainwright board-certified?

Yes. Board Certification through the American Board of Orthodontics requires a rigorous case-based examination beyond standard licensure. It's a distinction held by fewer than 40% of orthodontists.

Do you offer both braces and Invisalign?

Yes, and the recommendation is always based on your diagnosis and what will produce the best outcome, not on what's easiest or most popular.

How much do braces and Invisalign cost?

There is no single price. Cost depends on how complex your case is and how long treatment takes. At Keller & Wainwright Orthodontics in Sunnyvale, CA, Dr. Gabrielle Wainwright gives you the complete fee for your specific plan in writing at your complimentary consultation, along with your estimated insurance contribution and monthly payment options. We are not in-network, but we file claims on your behalf and accept HSA and FSA funds.

What are the main differences between braces and clear aligners, and which is better for teens?

Braces are fixed to the teeth and work continuously, which makes them dependable for complex bite correction and for teens who would struggle to wear aligners 22 hours a day. Invisalign clear aligners are removable, nearly invisible, and easier to clean around, making them a strong fit for motivated teens and adults. Dr. Wainwright recommends one over the other based on your diagnosis, not on preference. Both are available at our Sunnyvale office.

What should I do if I have a broken bracket, a poking wire, or another orthodontic emergency?

You should call or text our Sunnyvale office. Most orthodontic emergencies, such as a loose or broken bracket, a poking wire, or a lost aligner, are not medically urgent, but they can stall your progress, so we fit you in quickly. Until you are seen, cover a poking wire with orthodontic wax and keep any broken pieces to bring with you.

When should my child have their first orthodontic visit?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an evaluation by age 7. This allows us to assess jaw development and decide whether treatment, monitoring, or simply a watch-and-wait approach is appropriate.

Do you treat adults?

Absolutely. Many of our patients are adults seeking alignment correction, bite improvement, or long-term stability. It's never too late.

Are you in-network with dental insurance?

We are not in-network, but we file claims on your behalf and work to help you maximize your benefits. Our team is happy to walk you through your coverage before treatment begins.

What happens if I lose or break my retainer?

Contact us as soon as you notice, as teeth begin shifting within days without retainer wear. We keep your digital records on file, so in most cases, we can produce a replacement retainer without starting over. Do not wear a cracked or warped retainer in the meantime; it can move teeth in the wrong direction.

What are the basics of orthodontics every parent should know?

Three things. First, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first evaluation by age 7, early enough to guide jaw development while it is still easy to influence. Second, an early visit often results in monitoring rather than treatment; not every child needs Phase I. Third, an orthodontist is a dental specialist with two to three years of training beyond dental school. Dr. Gabrielle Wainwright is board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, a distinction held by fewer than 40% of orthodontists. We have complimentary evaluations at our Sunnyvale office.

What are the braces and aligner options for adults?

Adults at our Sunnyvale practice choose between clear or metal braces, Invisalign clear aligners, and, for bite problems the teeth alone cannot fix, surgical orthodontics coordinated with an oral surgeon. Treatment often runs alongside other dental work, which is why we plan multidisciplinary cases with your general dentist. It is never too late; many of our patients start in their 30s, 40s, and beyond.
